A5 “Shades of Purple” Journal - Folksy

Posted By HandmadebyEdwina on Fabric Crafts

For this project I chose a natural linen fabric as the base layer. I cut it out using a pre-drawn template, and then interfaced it. I selected and cut out a range of different fabrics that included vintage and new with various textures, including scraps of silk, brocade, lace and others that had former lives as tray cloths or doilies. I selected an image which I had printed on evolon, and then all the fabric pieces were arranged onto the natural linen base.

Each element was then machined stitched using zig zag stitch. After all the stitching had been completed, I then hand stitched nine mother of pearl buttons including a few vintage buttons, and six guipure lace flowers, plus one guipure heart motif and some purple lace flowers. Once this had been completed, I bound the fabric cover to the hardback book.
