How cute is this little guy?
He stands about 12cms tall, from his painted wooden base to the tip of his hand embroidered felt hat.
Tomte are my crafting passion when it comes to Christmas time.
A Tomte (or Nisse) is a mythical creature of Scandinavian
folklore. Tomtar were believed to take care of a farmer's home
and children and protect them from misfortune. In the late 1800s they became the bearers of Christmas (Jul) presents and the little creature you see now is known as a Jultomte in Sweden.
I have created a whole Tomte family - Small 'Baby' Tomte that can hang on the tree, these Medium 'Child' Tomte, Large 'Momma & Poppa' Tomte and they are all available in my Etsy shop.
