As someone who has arthritis in her knuckles and wrist, I often find the damp cool weather just makes them ache and stiffen up, which is one of the reasons I designed my own wristwarmer pattern.
This offers a chance to keep your hands covered without the tightness of gloves and mitts on swollen hands...and also allows my hands the freedom when they do need to work. These are great for photographers, dog walkers, those who walk with assistive devices, or anyone who needs to have bare fingers in the cold weather.
I also wear them over thin gloves when it's really cold...
