Yesterday I was brainstorming about my next piece and I had an unusual thought. How about instead of doing what I'm getting ready to do, I do the opposite? Maybe this would be a good way to inspire creative thought, and push myself to do something different (& hopefully more interesting) than I otherwise would.
My original plan was to recycle an old embroidered tablecloth hanging around in a scrap pile. I picked up my scissors and began to cut out squares of fabric, cutting around some damaged areas. In honor of my new opposite idea, I decide to feature the holes and crumby parts of the cloth instead of cut them away.
I mounted the fabric into my hoop, and sat down at my sketchbook to try out some ideas where I embrace the problem instead of working around it. Here is what I came up with.
