Blue Enamel Plique-a-jour Forget Me Not Earrings

Product Description:

These fun little flower earrings were created by Robbin Bowler. She formed and kiln fired Copprclay metal clay (similar to PMC) into solid copper forget me not flowers. Then she enameled them in vivid transparent Prussian blue with a golden clear enamel plique-à-jour center. Each flower is completely handmade and one of a kind. The back of each earring is signed and marked 2012.

Plique-à-jour (French for “letting in daylight”) is an enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass.

You can see various stages the enameling process for these earrings on Robbin’s Pinterest "Work in Progress" board: http://pinterest.com/robbinbowler/work-in-progress/
