The Devil's Monkey - Wood Carving

Product Description:

The Devil's Monkey is truely an abstract, indeed depending on how one looks at it you may not see 'The Devil's Monkey', instead you may see a sea horse or even an undead dog?!

This item has been carved from the rhizome of the highly invasive Japanese Knotweed a species alien to the UK and which has taken hold in a host of areas, it has an infamous reputation for killing and uprooting.

The piece I've used here is dead. It lay for almost a year between my lifting and carving it and despite this I took precautions to ensure that shavings and removed materials were incinerated. The wait however has been well worth it, it has a beutiful grain and although it was awkward to carve due to the nature of it's growth pattern the end result has proven to be highly satisfying.
